#55: Lippe basin - area of the Lippe water board

The landscape on the Lippe River is characterized by evolved agricultural use, which is also a strong economic factor. Without agriculture, the Lippe region would no longer be what it has been for centuries. The aim is to harmonize agricultural use and water body development. As part of the “Lebendige Lippe” programme, water bodies are being renatured and floodplains created or expanded by relocating dikes. For this purpose, areas must be acquired that are currently largely in agricultural ownership. Landowners must be adequately compensated through the exchange of areas or payment.
