#91: Azraq surface and groundwater basin

Both extractions for household and agricultural water uses are causing depletion of groundwater resources manifested by drops in groundwater levels and increasing salinity. In addition, the overdraft has led to the drying of the Azraq Oasis, ceasing of springs' discharges with all the implications to the ecology of this unique oasis. The increasing salinity of the groundwater is leading farmers to give up their livelihood with all implications to their social and economic existence (poverty, unemployment etc.).
